Pelion or Pilio
Pelion is known through mythology as the mountain of Centaurus (halfman/halfhorse). Today it has become one of the best places to visit all year round with no mass tourism. Picturesque beaches, traditional villages, local products, museums and a winter ski resort are some of the best you can explore in the country.
Ηiking, usually in stone paths (“kalderimia”) of Pelion is a real treat after the hiker walks in wooded surroundings where water is present everywhere and in small distances we encounter elegant and well-preserved villages. Most routes have certainly enough height difference due to the sudden formation of the mountain, but that’s part of the pleasure of walking, we usually follow the paths from above downwards to reach the beautiful beaches for a swim.
